Welcome
Mama Tina Resource Center is an approved 501 c(3) charity that was established to cater for special needs for orphans in Kisumu, Kenya. Our new Federal Tax ID # is 262780444.
We meet the needs of children who have been orphaned, abandoned, or poverty-stricken because of circumstances that they have no control over. Many years ago the center was just a home where children gravitated to upon learning that a caring family would take them in. Since then, that single residence has expanded to include housing for up to 45 children - meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs to help them fulfill their full potential.
This project aims to educate children through a school that has been set up with the generous donations of concerned individuals. Several of the children have graduated from this program and are currently enrolled in college. The hope is that these young men and women will then contribute by stepping back in and helping others just as they were helped.
The Mama Tina Resource Center also helps the surrounding areas by sponsoring community feedings and well projects - helping to provide clean water and food to hundreds of people in need.

2010 Resource Center Updates
This year we have some exciting new projects that we are looking forward to.
Our first project is to expand the clean water supply both at the orphanage and in the local community. Currently we have one hand dug well which dries up during seasonal droughts. From September to December, (summer in Africa) water has to be obtained from a source that is about five miles away. Walking that far is an all-day task, and during the hot weather… not a pleasant one.
We would like to put in a better, deeper well which would keep fresh water coming in even when the weather doesn’t cooperate. The kind of well we want to put in is 120 feet deep, can can serve our kids and up to 100 members of our community. We need to raise approximately $12,500 in funds for this clean water well. Water-borne diseases are one of the leading causes of sickness and death here in Kenya, so accomplishing this goal would help our kids lead healthier lives and directly contribute to their success in all areas.
Can you help with this project? Even a 5.00 donation will help! It’s tax deductable, and makes a huge difference! Please visit our contact page and click on ‘donate’.
The second project will be to make necessary improvements and additions to our current housing facility for our kids, so that they will be more comfortable and less crowded. We would like to hire a local contractor and workers, so that the money we spend on this project will help the local economy in Kisumu. The estimated cost of this project is between $15-20 K, which will allow us to add enough square footage so that the kids have a place to study, a designated dining area, and an extended sleeping space so that we aren’t having to ask 6 kids to share one area.
Two other long-term projects we’d like to begin this year include: starting a micro-finance program for women in the community, and building a health clinic that would be easily accessible for the children in our care.
Other Good News
We currently have 5 Mama Tina Graduates now attending college! Olivia is studying biology at Ergaton University, Susie is studying to be a nurse at Martta Hospital, Christina O. and Arnold are majoring in law at Moi University, and Christina A. is majoring in Computer Information Sciences at Jomo Kenyatta University.
We are so proud of these kids, and are very thankful that many of them have expressed an interest in pursuing a higher education and a good career, and then using that to come back in and support our cause of helping other children do the same thing. What an awesome testimony to the power of people joining together, with God’s help, and providing for those that would have otherwise ended up without a hope for their future.
