Several years ago a community feeding center was opened up approximately fifty miles from the Mama Tina Children’s Home. The focus of this service is to feed the children that reside in the extended community, that are currently living in poverty and desperately need at least one nutritious meal per day. The children are fed a balanced diet of protein and carbohydrates, usually in the form of beans & rice, along with fruit and other occasional items.
Studies have proven that when children receive nutrition at an early age, it contributes to their cognitive development that enables them to learn and make use of the educational services being provided to them. It is a long-term goal to feed and educate these children, allowing them to rise from poverty and be a successful contributing member of society.
As stated earlier, current financial support allows for the 1x daily feeding for up to 100 children at a time. While many boys & girls are being fed, even more are turned away for lack of resources. We need other individuals to get involved in this project to promote growth in this area. Over the next few years we would like to see that 1 daily feeding go up to 2 times per day, for twice as many kids, and so on….
